Top Georgian official at Yerevan forum: We have things to learn from Armenia

“I attach great importance to the development of cooperation between Armenia and Georgia in all areas, as well as to the constructive partnership between our countries in the judicial sector. For the Armenian government, judicial reforms are crucial, especially in terms of recording their results. In this context, the establishment of an independent, corruption-free and accountable judiciary in our country is of vital importance,” Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan said at third Armenian-Georgian legal forum in Yerevan on Monday, referring to the judicial reforms implemented by the government.

According to Avinyan, raising public trust in the judiciary is a key task for the Armenian government. “We will definitely achieve this goal. The judicial systems of Armenia and Georgia are facing similar problems, and both states are able to handle these challenges through joint sectoral cooperation. This cooperation can be exemplary in other areas as well. The Armenian government has committed to making efforts to strengthen cooperation with Georgia,” he stressed.

Georgian Deputy Prime Minister, Justice Minister Thea Tsulukiani stressed the need for the two states to exchange information about best practices and results.

She expressed confidence the two friendly countries can have a comprehensive dialogue on human rights and judicial reforms. The top official highlighted the success of the Georgian reforms in the filed of justice and good governance, resulting in the eradication of corruption.

“In this way we can achieve institutional democracy. But it is important to note here that for any reform to take place, states must have their priorities. There is no specific path to follow. It is important to listen to everyone's opinions and do what your state needs. We have come here to share our experience with Armenia and, of course, we have things to learn from Armenia as well, as there are steps in the judiciary that make Armenia ahead of us,” the Georgian official said.
