Turkey summons US envoy over Armenian Genocide resolution
Turkey summoned on Friday the U.S. ambassador in Ankara over a U.S. Senate resolution on the Armenian Genocide, Anadolu news agency reported, citing diplomatic sources said.
According to the source, speaking to David Satterfield, Sedat Onal, deputy foreign minister, voiced Turkey's strong criticism of the resolution, said the sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media.
The Senate voted unanimously on Thursday to recognize the Armenian genocide. Mr. Menendez and his Republican co-sponsor, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, had tried for three consecutive weeks to force passage of the measure after the House approved it in October. Each time, they were blocked by a Republican senator who, at the behest of the White House, argued that such a resolution would damage the United States-Turkey relationship.
