MP: Armenian authorities 'tearing down' revolution
"We reject the former authorities unconditionally, but at the same time we are concerned about the policies pursued by the current authorities," said MP Arman Babajanyan, who quitted the opposition Bright Armenia parliamentary faction in September.
Speaking at a discussion in participation of supporters of the revolutionary agenda on Saturday, the lawmaker called the Armenian government ‘incompetent’ and ‘non-professional’, adding its policies are 'tearing down' the 2018 ‘Velvet Revolution’.
The MP stressed no sweeping changes necessary in numerous sectors took place in Armenia over the past one year and a half.
He called for immediate reforms in the Constitutional Court, the judicial system and the law enforcement agencies.
The lawmaker emphasized that the political discourse in Armenia is limited to debates on the past and the present, which, according to him, is useless and ineffective. He noted the participants of the gathering claim to counterbalance the government if they succeed.
According to Babajanyan, the parliamentary opposition failed to carry out its counterbalancing and restraining mission, as a result of which the debate is being held outside the parliament.
“We will succeed if we shift the focus of political debates to the future. We all have different ideologies and approaches, but we are all united by the vision of a better country,” he said, adding that if they put aside their differences, they will be able to find the most effective way to build the country of their dreams.
