Joe Biden hails the Armenian Genocide resolution passed by US Senate
Democratic presidential candidate, former US Vice President Joe Biden hailed the passage of the Armenian Genocide resolution in the US Senate on Thursday.
“I applaud the Senate's landmark legislation formally recognizing the Armenian Genocide. If we don't fully acknowledge the past, “never again” loses its meaning. The facts must be as clear and as powerful for future generations as for those whose memories are seared by tragedy,” Biden tweeted.
To remind, the resolution initiated by Senators Bob Menendez and Ted Cruz, was passed by unanimous consent. It provides "official recognition and remembrance" of the killings of 1.5 million Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire beginning in 1915. Senator Menendez had tried to use the procedure to pass the measure three times before, but those attempts had been blocked by different Republican senators.
