MP slams attack on Zhoghovurd newspaper's office as ‘act against freedom of speech’
According to preliminary information, attackers who broke into the editorial office of Zhoghovurd daily and Armlur.am website at night and ransacked it, founder of the media outlet, MP Taguhi Tovmasyan told reporters on Thursday.
She denounced the attack as an “act against freedom of speech.”
“The legal and professional work of journalists has been obstructed since this morning. The work is currently paralyzed, which is already concerning,” she said.
The lawmaker said she has already agreed with some of her colleagues to issue a joint statement urging law enforcers to immediately identify the intruders.
Zhoghovurd newspaper’s Editor-in-Chief Knar Manukyan described the attack as an act aimed at obstructing the media outlet’s work.
“The alleged criminal or criminals have checked all the drawers. They ransacked the office but stole nothing. I don’t know what they were looking for or whether they found them or not, but I want to underline the fact that one of our employees had cash in his drawer, which is still in the same place,” she said.
