Yerevan court denies motion to keep Armenian maternity hospital chief under arrest
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction has denied prosecutors’ motion to keep the director of Armenia’s main maternity hospital in pre-trial custody amid the ongoing criminal investigation into the illegal adoption of Armenian children by foreigners.
Razmik Abrahamyan, Director of Republican Institute of Reproductive Health, Perinatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology (Republican Maternity Hospital), was present at the court hearing presided over by judge Davit Balayan on Sunday.
Abrahamyan, who was arrested on Wednesday, was been charged with involvement in the scheme of arranging the illegal separation of children from parents in a previous agreement with a group of people under Part 2.2 of Article 167 of Armenia’s Criminal Code and accepting bribes in return for the transaction under Part 3 of Article 200 of the same code (Commercial Bribe).
