The First Vice President of the Football Federation of Armenia Armen Melikbekyan was elected President of the Federation with13 votes in favor. His opponent, President of Lori Football Club Tovmas Grigoryan received only 7 votes in the elections held today in Yerevan.
Following the announcement of the results, Melikbekyan addressed the delegates, outlining his plans for the development of the football in the country.
“We should change the system and the management of football should be handed to people and the football community. For the proportional development of football in Armenia a professional Football League should be established,” Melikbekyan said.
To note, the election of the new president and Executive Committee came after the former President Artur Vanetsyan resigned from office in November after the Armenian national football team suffered the biggest defeat in its history losing to Italy 9 - 1 in the last qualifier for the 2020 European Championship on Monday.
