Corruption Prevention Commission files proceedings against Yerevan mayor
The Corruption Prevention Commission has launched proceedings against Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan on suspicion of violating the compatibility requirements.
The move comes after media reports alleging that the mayor combined public service with entrepreneurial activity.
“There is a 90-day deadline set by law, but I think it won't last that long,” the chairman of the commission, Haykuhi Harutyunyan told Panorama.am.
She said all the materials related to the case have already been collected, but due to the other pressing issues the commission is dealing with, the consideration of the case will be delayed till January.
Referring to Zhoghovurd newspaper, some media outlets published articles alleging in parallel to hold the mayor’s office Marutyan acted as the director of an LLC called “Yerkus u Kes” (Two and a Half) founded by him.
The Armenia law on public service bans public servants from engaging in any entrepreneurial activity or perform other paid work.
