Quartet Media co-founders condemn prosecution against Armenian TV channel owner
Quartet Media (Qaryak Media) co-founders Karen Bekaryan, Mihran Hakobyan, Arman Saghatelyan and Samvel Farmanyan condemn the criminal prosecution launched against the Fifth Channel owner Armen Tavadyan.
“The public position of an independent media owner is such that under condition of a failed democracy any political authority can be tempted into impacting those people in an effort to target the media outlet itself,” they said in a statement.
"The reports on the prosecution against the owner of Fifth Channel, Armen Tavadyan, at least, creates such an impression. Any step by the public authorities towards impeding or questioning the freedom of media is condemnable and must meet an unequivocal public resistance,” the statement read.
Armen Tavadyan was arrested on Tuesday as part of a criminal case involving Varuzhan Mkrtchyan, one of the supporters of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan.
