Armenian president signs Constitutional Court judges bill into law
President Armen Sarkissian of Armenia has signed a number of bills into law, including the draft law offering early retirement to Constitutional Court members, the presidential press service reported.
Under the new measure passed by the parliament on 11 December, if judges of the Constitutional Court resign by January 31, 2020, they will continue to receive pensions in the amount of their current salaries until the period when their mandates were to expire.
The bill was opposed by numerous lawyers, parties and political figures, who urged the president not to sign it and forward it to the Constitutional Court.
The president has also signed into law bills proposing supplements and amendments to the laws on military service and status of servicemen, bankruptcy, state duty, referendum, local self-government bodies, police, to name a few, as well as bills on Armenia’s Civil Procedure Code and Code on Administrative Offenses.
