Armenia calls for de-escalation of Middle East situation after Soleimani killing
The Armenian Foreign Ministry called for the de-escalation of situation in the Middle East exclusively through peaceful means following a U.S. airs strike in Iraq that killed Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran's elite Quds Force, and Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
The U.S. confirmed that it carried out the attack, with the Pentagon announcing in a statement that "this strike was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans."
“We are deeply concerned about the recent incidents in Baghdad which led to human losses as well. They risk further undermining the regional security and destabilizing the situation in the Middle East and beyond. Armenia calls for the de-escalation of situation exclusively through peaceful means.
“Armenia will continue to closely cooperate with all its partners aimed at ensuring regional stability and security,” the ministry said in a statement on Friday.
