Tigran Mansurian to write score for new film about Sergei Parajanov
Prominent Armenian composer Tigran Mansurian has committed to write a score for a new film about Soviet Armenian film director Sergei Parajanov, entitled “Unknown Parajanov”, the National Cinema Center of Armenia told Panorama.am.
The film will be based on the scenes left out of the renowned director’s “The Color of Pomegranates” during the film editing and other materials related to the film.
In August 2018, the rights to use the heritage of Armenian cinema were transferred to the National Cinema Center of Armenia by the decision of Armenia’s Ministry of Culture, which marked the start of the film restoration and digitalization process.
Fixafilm Polish post-production company first restored and digitized Parajanov's “Hagop Hovnatanian”, a ten-minute documentary.
Meanwhile, Fixafilm began work on restoring and digitizing footage left out of the original editing of “The Color of Pomegranates”, with one third of the film scenes restored initially.
“The Color of Pomegranates” was released in 1968 and is dedicated to Sayat Nova. Under the pressure of censorship, Parajanov had to completely re-edit and rename the film. The released film is the version re-edited by Sergei Yutkevich.
