Armenian expert on mounting US-Iran tensions: Red line crossed
Human losses were the red line which both the United States and Iran were trying not to cross to avoid further escalation of tensions, Armenian political scientist Suren Sargsyan said on Facebook on Wednesday, adding "that red line is now crossed."
His remarks came after Iran launched missile attacks on U.S.-led forces in Iraq early on Wednesday in retaliation for the U.S. drone strike on Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani.
Iran fired more than a dozen ballistic missiles from its territory against at least two Iraqi facilities hosting U.S.-led coalition personnel.
Sargsyan stated everything that happened matched the predictions he had made earlier.
“I did say that Iran would respond to General Soleimani’s killing. Human losses were the red line which both countries were trying not to cross. That red line is now crossed,” he said, reefing to his Facebook post on 3 January.
“Naturally, there won’t be military clashes within the two countries’ territories.
Iran is sure to strike back.
There will be clashes of armed units under the influence of the two states.
All the US military bases in the region are within the reach of Iranian missiles.
The likely points of the conflict of interests will be Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, etc.,” the post read.
The expert stressed he has no positive forecasts.
