Ex-president Kocharyan's lawyers to file a new complaint with ECHR
The defense team of former Armenian president Robert Kocharyan will file a new complaint with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Hayk Alumyan, one of Kocharyan’s attorneys has told Pasinfo news agency.
In Alumyan’s words, the new appeal refers to the recent rulings of the domestic courts rejecting the motion of changing ex-president’s detention measure and releasing him on bail.
“We consider the Court of Cessation does not provide effective remedies for the case at present and following the ruling of the Court of Appeals we are lodging an appeal with the European Court,” Alumyan has told the news agency.
The new appeal will be the 12th lodged with the European Court by Kocharyan’s defense team. Previous complaints concerned the violations of the presumption of innocence, the right to defense, and alleged breaches of the domestic legal procedures.
To note, Robert Kocharyan is currently held in custody charged with overthrowing Armenia's constitutional order during the March 1-2 events in capital Yerevan. He has dismissed the charges as 'politically motivated'.
