Winter Youth Olympics to open in Lausanne
International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach has encouraged athletes from around the world gathering for the 3rd Winter Youth Olympic Games in the Swiss city of Lausanne.
A ceremony was held on Wednesday at a facility near the athletes' village on the eve of the games' opening.
Bach joined the event as a surprise guest, and called on the young athletes to do their best and never give up.
The Youth Olympics kick off on Thursday with more than 1,800 athletes from 79 countries and territories taking part.
The Youth Olympic Games will feature 8 sports and 16 disciplines. 81 events, there will be 13 mixed team events, 34 men's events, and 34 women's events.
