The Armenian government convened this year’s first meeting on Thursday, January 9, with 22 items on the agenda.

Opening the meeting, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated 2019 was a truly successful year for Armenia.

“In 2018-2019 we managed to resolve all the short-term issues on our agenda, and 2020 will be a time for us to become more involved in solving strategic issues. I think that we have started 2020 rather positively,” the PM said.

Nikol Pashinyan noted that the renewed concept proposed to Armenian citizens actually justified itself. In particular, he said, from the New Year period up to date a large number of tourists can be spotted in Yerevan and across Armenia in general. “The numbers are not summed up yet, but the visual picture is like that,” he said.

The prime minister also linked this to the government’s decision on New Year celebrations at Yerevan’s Republic Square.

“I think that taking into account the experience of 2018-2019 and the fact that the disruptive times for us are over, we should start planning next year's New Year celebrations from now on,” he said.

Pashinyan revealed plans to organize a festival of yarkhushta, an Armenian folk dance, in the country this year. He also addressed the issue of single-vendor procurements, stressing the need of reducing the practice to minimum.
