Ryanair’s first flight to Armenia could be delayed due to Italy strike, says civil aviation chief
Low-cost carrier Ryanair’s first flight to Armenia could be delayed because of a labor strike in Italy, Chair of Armenia’s Civil Aviation Commitee Tatevik Revazyan told a news conference in Yerevan on Monday.
Italian air-traffic controllers are staging a strike which will affect flights carried out by Ryanair, Revazyan said.
"It's not Ryanair's fault, it has nothing to do with us either," she said.
She noted that the flight scheduled for Tuesday, January 14, was initially included in the list of cancelled flights, but later removed.
The Civil Aviation Committee chief said the flight could still be delayed and added that the committee will provide further information if the circumstances change.
The Milan-Yerevan flight is expected to land at Zvartnots International Airport at 1:10pm if no delays occur.
Ryanair, Europe’s No.1 airline, on 16 October announced its first ever flights from Armenia, the 40th country in the Ryanair network, with two new routes from Yerevan to Milan Bergamo and Rome Ciampino starting in January 2020, and two new routes from Yerevan to Berlin Schönefeld and Gyumri to Memmingen starting in Summer 2020. Ryanair’s 2020 schedule will deliver 130,000 customers annually to/from Ryanair’s Armenian airports.
