Extraordinary court hearing underway to determine measure of restraint for ex-General Manvel Grigorian
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction is holding an extraordinary hearing on measure of restraint for Manvel Grigoryan, a retired Armenian army general and a former lawmaker facing various criminal charges.
The hearing was called at the initiative of the Prosecutor General’s office following the deterioration of Grigoryan’s health condition. Grigoryan is charged with embezzlement of army supplies and illegal procurement and possession of firearms and ammunition in large quantities in a prior agreement with his wife, son and several other individuals, tax evasion and extortion.
Grigoryan has been in custody since January 2019, when the Yerevan Court of Appeals ruled to re-arrest him. Since then, the court has repeatedly rejected bail requests by ex-general’s attorney, despite medical examinations proving grave health condition of the ex-General of the army.
