Woman was tied to a car and dragged through the roads - MP recalls stories from anti-Armenian pogroms
We should not believe that the time will change the perpetrators of genocides, Armenian lawmaker Sasun Mikayelyan stated on Saturday at the special sitting of the inter-parliamentary committee on cooperation between the National Assemblies of Artsakh and Armenia. The sitting was held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the anti-Armenian pogroms in Baku.
In Mikayelyan’s words, the argument proved wrong during the April war in 2016 when barbarians in Talish village of Karabakh viciously killed the civilians.
“As long as the world is unable to prevent the repetitions of genocides we have nothing but rely on our own abilities and stay ready to decisively counteract any genocidal act against us. Our unity remains the only guarantee for that,” Mikayelyan said.
He recalled numerous stories from the pogroms, including the Martakert retreat, those who managed to escape Maragha massacres, evidences of cruelties and hardships that will never erase from memory.
“When I was in a hospital, a woman was admitted rom Maragha. It turned out Azeris had tied her hands to a car with a rope and dragged through the roads. Her body was worn out and she survived only thanks to our doctors. Not only people alive but those fallen were subjected to inhuman acts and degrading treatment. There were cases when we exchanged captives with bodies of our compatriots. The corpses were horribly mutilated and sometimes we were unable to identify them ,” Mikayelyan recalled.
The Armenian lawmaker pointed to the need of raising the facts with international organisations and expect the civilized world not only condemn but also ensure complete prevention of genocides.
