New auditorium named after April Hero Armenak Urfanyan opened at Homeland Defender's Centre
A new auditorium named after April War Hero Armenak Urfanyan opened on Tuesday at the Homeland Defender's Rehabilitation Centre of Heratsi Hospital Complex N1 in Yerevan.
The solemn opening ceremony was attended by Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) Rector Armen Muradyan, Urfanyan’s family members and relatives as well as veteran military servicemen. “Today marks the 30th birthday anniversary of our hero who fell for the dignity and peace, the freedom and independence of the motherland,” Rector Muradyan noted in his welcome remarks.
Urfanyan’s mother, Hamest Urfanyan, in turn, noted she received the suggestion to name the auditorium after his son from rector Muradyan and gave her consent with pleasure.
“My son and his friends sacrificed their lives for the motherland, the Armenian people, and today we are happy to see they are valued. Not only me but parents of all those soldiers who fell during the April war are grateful that our sons are remembered, while disabled servicemen are supported,” Mrs Urfanyan said.
The hero’s mother informed that cherry tree was the favorite tree of Urfanyan and Rector Muradyan has planned to plant the one in in the park adjacent to the Rehab center. The sapling of the tree has been placed at a corner in the new auditorium.
During the event, Rector Muradyan informed that the next auditoriums in the Centre will be named after Qyaram Sloyan and Andranik Zohrabyan, both of them fell during war, fighting along with Urfanyan.
To remind, overnight 1-2 April in 2016 in the military post located near Martakert, that had significant strategic importance, Captain Urfanyan, together with his fellow soldiers fought back against the Azerbaijani special forces for hours withstanding the strikes of the heavy armored vehicles. 4 out of 7 heroes fell during the unequal fight, among them Armenak Urfanyan, Kyaram Sloyan, Robert Abajyan and Andranik Zohrabyan.
