Situation around the Constitutional Court to be resolved in 1-2 months – deputy speaker of parliament
“Exacts dates are not yet clear but I presume the ongoing situation around the Constitutional Court of Armenia will be resolved in 1-2 months, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan told reporters at a briefing on Thursday. Simonyan’s response came at a request to comment on the similar statement of Prime Minister Pashinyan who had stated that Hrayr Tovmasyan, the President of the Constitutional Court cannot hold the office.
“The matter is related to the legal process that will bring solutions, and the Constitutional Court that is operating in the logic of old times will be freed despite the wishes of Tovmasyan,” Simonyan said, declining to provide further details.
To remind, earlier the Special Investigative Service of Armenia brought charges against the President of the Constitutional Court Tovmasyan with an abuse of power. Tovmasyan denied any wrongdoing, adding the charges are part of a “political process” aimed at forcing him to step down.
