Armenia’s NSS detects bribery cases related to deferments, early discharge from military service
The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia has uncovered a scheme of arranging military deferments and early military discharge in return for bribes through forged medical papers in 2019.
In an official statement on Tuesday, the security service said a senior neurologist in a prior agreement with an official close to him arranged deferments from military service for four conscripts in exchange for $8,500 in bribes in November-December last year.
According to the obtained evidence, the doctor’s accomplice received a total of $45,000 in bribes from the relatives of the mentioned conscripts and other servicemen to arrange deferments or early discharge from the military service in 2019.
The NSS did not disclose the identity of the suspects.
A criminal case has been launched into the scheme.
The official has confessed to the crime.
A preliminary probe is underway.
