Kocharyan's lawyers file petition to drop criminal prosecution against the former president
The lawyers representing Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan in the criminal case alleging his complicity in 2008 post-election events, have filed a new motion to drop the criminal prosecution against their client. The court hearing of the motion will continue on February 11 due to end of the working day on Tuesday.
As lawyer Hovhannes Khudoyan said while presenting the petition, the procedures of determining pre-trial measure for the former president and the criminal prosecution in general have been carried out ondiscriminatory and selective basis which is conditioned with political views of their client
Meanwhile, Hovhannes Orbelian, another member of the defense team, argued that the constitutional provision on the functional inviolability of the president and his presumption of innocence have been continuously violated throughout the criminal prosecution.
