Armenian authorities uncover large-scale embezzlement of state funds by municipal officials
The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia has uncovered large-scale embezzlement of state funds by a group of officials.
In an official statement on Wednesday, the NSS said a group of top officials of the Yerevan Municipality and several administrative districts, failing to perform their official duties and abusing their powers, did not properly supervise the activity of Davars company responsible for garbage disposal and cleaning of riverbeds in the Armenian capital under the 2014 contract with the municipal authorities.
The officials ignored regular breaches of the contract clauses by the company, signed executive acts based on exaggerated data by company employees, as well as records of acceptance and delivery of works and services. As a result, in 2015-2019 around 450,000,000 drams in state funds were embezzled from 1.862,000,000 drams transferred to the company.
A criminal has been launched.
A preliminary investigation is underway.
