Armenian Foreign Ministry: Activity of Azerbaijan’s GONGOs no factor in Karabakh peace talks
Spokesman for the Armenian Foreign Ministry Anna Naghdalyan has responded to a question about a meeting of the ambassadors of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries and an Azerbaijani non-governmental organization representative.
Below is the question and answer publicized by the Foreign Ministry.
Question: Discussions are intensifying within the Armenian expert circles that the role of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh in the peace process is growing, as evidenced by the meeting of the co-chairing countries' ambassadors with the head of the community, Tural Gyanjaliyev. Is there such a development?
Answer: The activity of Azerbaijani government-organized non-governmental organizations (GONGOs), no matter by what fictitious name they present themselves, is not a factor in the peace process, and the Armenian Foreign Ministry does not comment on their contacts with members of the diplomatic corps accredited in their country.
Let me repeat myself that Armenia's position on the parties to the conflict is clear. Since 1992, the Artsakh authorities have participated in the peace process as elected representatives of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The Karabakh authorities, together with the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan, signed the Bishkek Protocol calling for a ceasefire, and document of the OSCE Budapest Summit in 1994 enshrined a trilateral negotiation format based on the 1994 tripartite ceasefire agreement between Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
