The United States is taking active unilateral “shadow” efforts to push ahead with US President Donald Trump's ‘deal of the century’ aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, despite the negative attitude expressed by a number of organizations and key stakeholders, expert in Arabic studies Armen Petrosyan said in a post on Facebook.
"In this context, reports have emerged that a summit is set to be held in Cairo in the coming weeks in participation of leaders of several key Arab countries and Israel with the active mediation efforts of Washington,” he wrote.
“By the way, this meeting is described as "unprecedented", as the Egyptian president, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, heads of Jordan, the UAE, Sudan, Bahrain, Oman, the US secretary of state and others may attend it. An attempt is reportedly being made to secure the participation of the Palestinian Authority leader [in the summit], with the process being coordinated by Mike Pompeo team’s itself.
“If such a meeting takes place, it wil be crucial no matter what the outcomes, marking an unprecedented step towards easing the Middle East tensions,” the post read.
