Court hearing in trial of Kocharyan, three other former top officials paused
The court hearing in the trail of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan and three other former senior officials Armen Gevorgyan, Seyran Ohanyan and Yuri Khachaturov had to be temporarily paused shortly after it started on Tuesday amid the absence of defense lawyers.
“Since not all the attorneys are present, I announce a break until defense lawyers Erik Alexanyan and Karen Mezhlumyan appear before the court," said presiding judge Anna Danibekyan.
Karen Mezhlumyan is Seyran Ohanyan's lawyer, while Erik Alexanyan represents Armen Gevorgyan in the criminal case.
According to the indictment, Kocharyan is charged with overthrowing Armenia’s constitutional order during the March 1-2, 2008 post-election events in Yerevan, abusing his powers and taking a bribe of large amount during his tenure from 1998 to 2008.
Seyran Ohanyan and Yuri Khachaturov have also been charged with an overthrow of the constitutional order during the post-election unrest.
Meanwhile, Armen Gevorgyan is charged with assistance to an overthrow of the constitutional order, corruption and money laundering.
