Syrian parliament recognizes Armenian Genocide
The Syrian parliament adopted unanimously on Thursday a resolution recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, the Armenian government said in a Facebook post.
According to Kantsasar Weekly, the resolution recognizes and condemns the Armenian Genocide and the genocide of other representatives of the Syrian people by the Ottoman Turks in the early 20th century.
The measure has been introduced by the Syrian-Armenian Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Earlier Secretary of the Syrian People’s Assembly Rami Saleh said although the parliament had paid tribute to the Armenian Genocide victims in the past, the adoption of a resolution condemning the crime was a necessity.
