Fruit, vegetable prices up in Armenia in January: statistics
Consumer prices in Armenia rose by 0.2% in January 2020 from January 2019 and by 0.2% from December 2019, the latest official statistics show. According to the data published by the State Statistical Service, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew by 3.1% in January 2020 to compare with December 2019 which was largely prompted by 17.6% and 10.4% rise in vegetable and fruit prices, respectively.
Fruit prices increased by 0.9% last month against the same month of 2019, and by 10.4% against December 2019. Prices of vegetables rose by 4.4% in January this year to compare with January 2019, and by 17.6% from December 2019.
In total, fruit and vegetable inflation was 14.9% in January this year against December of the previous year. Having a share of 9.08% in the consumer basket, those product groups contributed to a 1.4 percentage point increase in overall consumer prices in the reporting period.
