Prosperous Armenia Party to unveil its position on constitutional referendum today
The Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) will announce its position on the referendum to change Armenia’s Constitution following the party's political council meeting on Friday.
MP Iveta Tonoyan said during the parliamentary briefings that the PAP is self-sufficient and will make public its position on the constitutional referendum after the meeting of the party’s political council set to start at 4pm.
Answering a reporter’s question that the PAP does not express a clear stance on the matter, lawmaker Mikayel Melkumyan stated that the PAP voiced its position during the parliamentary debates.
He stated the party did not oppose the idea of holding a constitutional referendum, but the parliament failed to comply with the constitution while making a decision to hold it.
According to the MP, it was also necessary to wait two weeks to get the advisory opinion of the Venice Commission on the referendum, which was not done either, therefore the faction did not participate in the vote on the referendum.
