Fallen hero Grigor Harutyunyan would have turned 23 today
Today, February 15, marks the birthday anniversary of Grigor Harutyunyan, an Armenian soldier who died a hero’s death during the 2016 April war. The hero soldier would have turned 23 today.
Grigor Harutyunyan was named after his paternal uncle who fell during the Artsakh Liberation War. Before joining the army, Grigor was studying to be a chef. He was drafted into the army in summer 2015 and was stationed near Jabrail (Jrakan). A sniper of the Artsakh Armed Forces, Grigor fell heroically on the night of April 2 when Azerbaijani military launched a sudden large-scale offense against Artsakh.
He was among the 18 missing soldiers in the four-day war whose bodies were returned to the Armenian side weeks later.
Grigor’s mother, Anahit, had a dream where Grigor was calling her for help on the night he was killed. She received the news of her son’s death soon after.
The hero soldier was posthumously awarded with the Medal for Courage of Armenia.
