Constitutional referendum campaign kicks off in Armenia
The campaign for a referendum to change Armenia’s Constitution is getting underway in the country on Monday, February 17, to run through 3 April.
April 5 has been set as the date for the constitutional referendum.
The National Assembly passed a decision to put the draft constitutional amendments to a referendum during a special sitting on 6 February.
The constitutional changes proposed by deputies of the ruling My Step bloc would dismiss Constitutional Court Chairman Hrayr Tovmasyan and the members of Armenia’s highest court elected prior to April 9, 2018.
The constitutional referendum “Yes” campaign will be headed by Chairman of the Board of the Civil Contract party, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Suren Papikyan.
The Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia opposition parliamentary factions have announced their decision not to take part in the process of holding the constitutional referendum.
