Government commission on constitutional changes holds its first meeting
An ad hoc government commission tasked with drafting amendments to Armenia’s constitution held its first session on Friday chaired by Yeghishe Kirakosyan, the Representative of Armenia at the European Court of Human Rights. During the meeting, the working groups of the specialized commission were formed and the working plan was confirmed
As the press service at the ministry of justice reported, the members of the commission exchanged views on main directions of the constitutional changes. As agreed, the members will present proposals to draft a concept of Constitutional amendments through a coordinated work within the set deadlines.
To remind, the Armenian government officially announced plans to amend the constitution in October last year as part of its strategy of reforming the national judicial and electoral systems. The strategy calls for constitutional changes relating to the work of judicial bodies and conduct of elections.
