Turkish-backed counterattack fails in Idlib
Syria’s official state news agency SANA has shared video footage of what appeared to be Russian jets repelling a rebel counterattack in Syria’s Idlib province that had extensive Turkish military support, Ahval news reports.
Russian Su-24 jets were filmed dropping bombs on targets northwest of Al-Nayrab around a hill that dominates the approach to the town. Two days before, open-source tracking of aircraft movements indicated additional Su-24s had flown from southern Russia to Syria via Iran.
The source reminds that rebels in Idlib including jihadist groups last week launched a counter-offensive, supported by Turkey, which threatens a full-blown operation into the province unless Syrian government forces retreat beyond its observation points.
