Death toll from new coronavirus jumps to 107 in Iran
The death toll in Iran from the new coronavirus has climbed to 107, the country's Health Ministry announced on Thursday, according to Anadolu agency report. Fifteen additional people died of the COVID-19 disease as new cases were reported across the country in the last 24 hours, spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said at a news conference in the capital Tehran.
The latest figure brought the total number of infections to over 3,510, said Jahanpour.
Most of the new cases were detected in Tehran, Qom, Gilan, Isfahan, Mazandaran and Markazi provinces, he added.
Jahanpour said 739 patients infected with the coronavirus were successfully treated and discharged from hospitals across Iran.
The new coronavirus emerged in Wuhan, China, last December and has now spread to 79 countries.
The global death toll is nearing 3,500, with more than 95,000 confirmed cases, according to the WHO.
