Armenian deputy PM: Ban on public events extends to entire country from Tuesday
Armenia’s Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, who is heading the commandant’s office set up for the purpose of unified control of the forces and means ensuring a legitimate state of emergency declared in Armenia on Monday, has announced his decision on the situation on Facebook.
“Based on the government's decision to declare a state of emergency, I have decided to extend the provisions of the clause on restrictions and prohibitions on assemblies or public events to the whole country from 17 March, 12pm. This ban refers to organizing, conducting or participating in public events,” the deputy PM wrote.
Accordingly, public events with 20 and more participants, including concerts, exhibitions, performances, theatrical performances and other sports, cultural, educational events, fun activities, festivities and commemoration events (including but not limited to birthday, wedding parties, wake and funeral ceremonies), have been banned throughout the country.
“In the case of wake and funeral ceremonies we will try to widen opportunities for participation while keeping an eye out for people not to be crowded during such ceremonies,” he said.
