Armenian expert: Syria issues large-scale amnesty to prevent coronavirus spread
Syria reported its first case of the novel coronavirus on Sunday in a person who had come from abroad, orientalist Armen Petrosyan said in a Facebook post.
According to the expert, it shows that Syria is not cut off from the global developments.
“For the past few days the Syrian government had been preparing to tackle the possible spread of the virus across the country, even urging its citizens to restrict movement and stay home.
"On Sunday, President Bashar al-Assad issued Decree No. 6 declaring a large-scale amnesty for all crimes committed before March 22, 2020,” he wrote.
Petrosyan said the move was most likely part of the efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Syria.
