Coronavirus not transmitted by blood, no need for testing blood donors
Since many coronavirus patients in Armenia have no symptoms, as the Ministry of Health has repeatedly stated, and in parallel with the spread of the infection more people are seeking blood donors on social media, Panorama.am inquired whether a blood donor is tested for the novel coronavirus.
In response, the Hematology Center said that coronavirus is not transmitted by blood transfusion.
"But in any case, if a donor has flu-like symptoms, especially if he/she has taken any medicine, blood will not be taken," the center said.
Asked to clarify whether donors are tested for coronavirus before donating blood, the center said it has no such tests, reiterating the virus is not transmitted by blood.
