Armenian police urge citizens to follow commandant’s instructions
The Police of Armenia urge citizens to follow the instructions of Commandant Tigran Avinyan.
Armenia imposed a week-long nationwide lockdown on Tuesday in a bid to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, Deputy Police Chief Hayk Mhryan said police have been taking action to meet those demands since Tuesday. "All our efforts are focused on meeting those demands, and we hope we will succeed,” he said.
Asked if there are any citizens who have flouted the restrictions imposed by the commandant and what punishment they have faced, the deputy police chief said that until 16pm they are instructed to carry out explanatory works in case if a citizen does not have a form. However, after 4pm the police will take action envisaged by the law.
According to the police officer, 92 people have been told to get off cars as third persons, with measures applied against two means of public transport.
Mhryan added reporters will not be required to fill a form if they show their badges.
Addressing concerns that a form could also become a source of the spread of the infection since police officers are set to check the forms of thousands of people, he said police officers will take all possible measures to prevent such a scenario, but no one is guarded against the virus.
