Trump shaken by scenes from New York hospital
The haunting images coming out of Elmhurst Hospital in his native Queens appeared to rattle US President Donald Trump on Sunday, ABC7 News reports.
"I've been watching that for the last week on television," he said. "Body bags all over, in hallways. I've been watching them bring in trailer trucks - freezer trucks, they're freezer trucks, because they can't handle the bodies, there are so many of them. This is essentially in my community, in Queens, Queens, New York," he continued. "I've seen things that I've never seen before."
13 patients at the hospital succumbed to the virus in one day last week.
Queens, the largest borough, has been the hardest-hit by the virus, with close to 11,000 confirmed cases of the virus. New York City overall has had close 34,000 cases and more than 1,000 deaths, according to Daily Mail.
New York state, the epicenter of the outbreak, surpassed a grim milestone Sunday as the death toll from the outbreak climbed above 1,000, less than a month after the first case was detected.
Donald Trump has extended America’s national shutdown for a month, bowing to public health experts, and scientific reality, and warning that the worst of the coronavirus pandemic is yet to come, The Guardian reports.
