Artsakh presidential election runoff set for April 14
The Artsakh Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has set April 14 as the date for a runoff election to decide the country’s next president as none of the candidates garnered at least 50% plus 1 vote in the March 31 general elections.
As many as 14 candidates were running for president in Artsakh. Chairman of the United Homeland Party Arayik Harutyunyan and Foreign Minister Masis Mayilyan will face off in the second round. Harutyunyan collected 49.26 % of the votes, while Mayilyan – 26.4%.
At a regular meeting on Tuesday, the CEC held that during the March 31 vote no serious violations of the Electoral Code were committed that could have affected the outcome of the elections. The election campaign will get underway on April 9.
Also, the meeting addressed the parliamentary elections held on the same day. The Central Electoral Commission declared the National Assembly as elected.
The parliamentary seats have been distributed in the following way:
Free Homeland alliance – 16 mandates
United Homeland Party – 9 mandates
Artsakh Justice Party – 3 mandates
Armenian Revolutionary Federation – 3 mandates
Artsakh Democratic Party – 2 mandates
