Opposition leader points to legal restriction on extension of the state of emergency in Armenia
The Head of opposition “Bright Armenia” fraction at parliament Edmon Marukyan insists the state of emergency declared in Armenia amid the Covid-19 pandemic cannot be extended in the whole republic.
Marukyan referred to the reports circulated in media that the government envisages to extend the state of emergency regime for another 30 days. “I should inform that according to Part 1 Article 5 of the RA Law on the Legal Regime of the State of Emergency, the term of the state of emergency declared in the republic cannot exceed 30 days in the whole republic and 60 days in separate territories. Subsequently, the extension of the regime in the whole territory of the republic is impossible by law,” Marukyan wrote on Facebook.
To remind, the Armenian government declared a state of emergency from March 16, 18:30, local time, through April 14, 17:00.
