Health minister: Coronavirus testing process gains momentum in Armenia
At the beginning of a special government meeting on Monday, Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan presented the latest data on coronavirus cases in the country.
"I would like to inform you that a large number of tests were performed on Saturday and Sunday. In other words, the goal of increasing the testing capacity is being realized. For example, 680 tests were performed on Saturday, while 467 tests were carried out on Sunday,” the minister said.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asked Torosyan whether there is a possibility to run 1,000 tests a day in practice or there has to be an instruction for testing a person for coronavirus.
"In other words, we should not approach a person on the street, telling him/her, ‘Excuse me, let's test you’,” Pashinyan said.
Torosyan detailed that there should be an instruction and a process of gaining momentum in COVID-19 testing.
"All medical facilities have been instructed on how to take a sample and where to send it. A new logistics system has been created, an electronic system is being introduced. In fact, at the moment, tests are being carried out in six laboratories, probably another one will join them in the next one week,” the minister said.
