Public transport drivers protest in Yerevan
A group of Yerevan public transport drivers staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding the government to involve them in one of the measures to neutralize the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak.
Protesters complain they cannot earn a living amid the stranded public transport in the country in a bid to curb the spread of the virus, but have not been included in any social support program so far.
“What should I tell my kids? Don’t feed yourself for a month? My children are 5 to 6 years of age; how can I explain them?” one of the drivers complained.
“They tell us to stay home for each other, but what do they do for us? I am the only worker of my family which has seven members,” another added.
Drivers state they have no money to pay off their bank credits and debts. They claim more than 250 drivers have been forced to idle.
“We are aware of the situation in the country. We wish sound health to everyone. We don’t seek to cause more problems today, we just want to know which of the support programs we are involved in,” they said.
