Belarus president in favor of more adaptive price for natural gas
Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko believes there are unresolved problems in the sphere of energy industry and prices for energy resources. BelTA news agency reports that Lukashenko made the relevant statement during a videoconference meeting of members of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on 14 April.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I would like to point out that we entered the crisis while a problem of fundamental importance for the steady operation of the economy was unresolved. I am talking about prices for energy resources and payments for them. Certainly, we didn't expect such a situation to emerge. Nevertheless, the facts are obvious. Such inflexibility negatively affects the entire chain of formation of the added value. Which means it undermines the stable operation of the union.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that since the member states have yet to create common energy markets in the Eurasian Economic Union, it is necessary to come to an agreement on how to proceed in the current situation. “Primarily with regard to prices for and payments for natural gas. It is obvious that due to the drastic change of the economic situation the price should be more adaptive while the mechanism of payments should be affordable for consumers,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed, as quoted by the source.
He addressed President of Russia Vladimir Putin with a request to promptly consider the matter.
