Patrol service to operate in Armenia in early 2021
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a consultative meeting on Saturday to discuss the draft strategy of Police reform. As the press service at the government reported, the action plan for 2020-2022 within the reform was briefed to the PM in detail. It was noted that the strategy envisages the establishment of the Ministry of Interior and patrol service. Among other priority directions of the new reform are the clarification of structural changes and functions in the Police system and the establishment of an operational management center.
The PM highlighted the importance of creating the new image of a police officer. “The service in the Police forces should be attractive and the system should recruit professional specialists,” the PM said, pointing to the need of ensuring social guarantees for the police servicemen.
What regards to the work of traffic police, Pashinyan stressed that the main policy should not be fining citizens but implementing measures aimed at preventing traffic violations. It was noted that according to the draft strategy, the patrol service will start operating in Armenia in the first trimester of 2021.
