Armenia’s 14th coronavirus relief measure to cover students with high GPA
Armenian students with high GPA (grade point average) will receive financial support as part of the 14th coronavirus relief measure approved by the government.
The second semester tuition bills of all graduating students involved in undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate studies of the state universities of Armenia with a GPA of 90 and higher will be paid off by the government, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, all non-graduate students with a GPA of 90 and higher will get the 75 percent of their semi-annual tuition fees reimbursed by the government.
Graduating students who do not owe tuition fees may refuse from support or receive the sum if it has been paid by an individual. If the graduating student has paid the tuition fee through a student loan, the money will be directed to paying the loan, he said.
“The procedure for providing student loans will be simplified. Interest rates on new loans for students with a GPA above 80 will be zeroed by 2020, including for state-accredited university students.
“Loan interest rates for students with less than 80 GPA will be subsidized by 5%, i.e. loans will be available at 4%,” the premier wrote.
Students will pay the principal amount of the loan after graduating from the university, he added.
