1,283 citizens seeking to return to Armenia, says deputy FM
Some 1,283 Armenian citizens abroad have applied to return home as of Tuesday, April 21, Deputy Foreign Minister Avet Adonts told a news conference, adding that those wishing to get back to Armenia have applied to and registered with the diplomatic missions of the country.
In total, 22,000 citizens returned to Armenia from March 14 to April 21, the official said.
In his words, the diplomatic missions ensure the security and temporary housing of Armenian citizens through the effective cooperation of the Commandant’s Office, Armenian government, Ministry of Health and civil aviation authorities.
The deputy minister informed that 200 diplomats are involved in the efforts to support Armenian citizens. He urged Armenians abroad to get in touch with the Armenian embassies and consulates and follow their recommendations.
According to Avet Adonts, there are cases when flights are postponed for objective reasons, as they contain numerous risks starting from receiving flight permits to health safety issues.
"If, for example, a flight from Russia is delayed, our embassy makes it easier for the citizen to pass through that period and provides them with temporary housing," Adonts said.
Referring to the withdrawal of Armenian citizens from Moscow Domodedovo Airport by the Russian authorities, the deputy minister said that citizens should obey the restrictions imposed in the country.
"After the last press conference, three flights from Domodedovo have been carried out. Yesterday and the day before two flights were operated from Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don. No one has been forgotten. From the very beginning, we were aware of what happened at Domodedovo; we are planning to repatriate them to Armenia with steps to be taken in the next few days," Adonts said.
Also, the official said some employees of the Russian Embassy in Armenia are quarantined, but none of them have tested positive for coronavirus so far.
