230 coronavirus patients put on ventilators in Armenia, says health minister
According to the fresh figures, Armenia has confirmed 50 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of cases to 1,523 in the country,
26 more patients have recovered from the disease with the total number of recoveries now standing at 659, Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan said at a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
In total, there are 840 active cases, the minister said. The number of coronavirus fatalities is 24, he added.
“At the moment, 10 patients are in critical condition and 230 are hooked up to ventilators,” Torosyan said, adding the hospitals have sufficient beds to serve all patients.
Reflecting on the commandant’s decision to lift restrictions on certain types of economic activity, the minister warned against losing vigilance and urged employees to restrict contacts.
Asked by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to touch upon the coronavirus situation worldwide, the health minister said the coronavirus cases and deaths in Iran keep falling day by day as the country is easing the restrictions.
In Torosyan’s words, global debates suggest that the relaxation of coronavirus lockdown measures could set off a second wave of the pandemic.
“Uncertainties remain in Europe and the countries are making daily decisions,” he concluded.
