Former chief of Armenia’s Urban Development Committee to remain under arrest
Vahagn Vermishyan, Former Chairman of the Urban Development Committee of Armenia, will remain in pre-trial custody as the Yerevan Court of Appeals denied a defense appeal against the extension of his arrest for two months.
Speaking to Panorama.am, Vermishyan's lawyer Mushegh Arakelyan said that he has not yet received the court ruling and cannot unveil the reasons for the rejection.
He noted that the appellate court has not even taken into account the fact that Vermishyan is at higher risk for coronavirus given his age.
Arakelyan said they will appeal the ruling to the Court of Cassation.
Vermishyan was arrested on February 5 on suspicion of taking large bribes.
